New York to Beijing = 6,841 miles
The entire LIAC team has been divided into 5 teams, each representing a color of the Olympic Rings. Beginning May 1st the coaches will be tallying the miles each swimmer swims in practice. The goal is for each team to reach Beijing (swim 6,841 miles) by July 22. There will be awards for the Gold, Silver and Bronze medal teams. On July 23 LIAC will be having a Beach Party. At the beach there will be other challenges for each team to compete for the gold. More information about the beach party will be out shortly.

The first day of the Zone Meet was successful for Sean Sullivan, Gabby Borutence, Maggie Johns, Patrick Yang and Nick Spinella. Sean raced to a personal best in his 400 IM with a 4:15.26 giving him the silver medal! Gabby's 1:09.43 was right at her best time placing her 4th in the 100 breast. Maggie's time in the 1000 free was good enough for a 7th place finish. Her time of 11:01.36 was also right at her best time. Patrick's personal best of 55.70 in the prelims of the 100 fly was good enough to get him into finals. The 55.97 he swam at night placed him 8th and was a second best time. Congratulations to the individual medals. Nick Spinella had a solid anchor leg off the winning 400 Free Relay. Nick's 48.30 is well under a second of his individual personal best.
Second day, Second Silver for Sean Sullivan. Sean's 1:59.79 in the 200 IM was a personal best. In the 15-18 200 breaststroke Gabby finished in 4th with a 2:29.60. Nick Spinella takes an individual bronze medal with a 54.49 in his 100 back.
Nick Spinella takes home two individual silver medals on the last day of competition. Nick's 1:56.38 in the 200 back and 48.29 in his 100 free were both great swims, the 100 free was a PB. Great meet Nick. Sean finished his meet with a personal best and the gold in the 200 fly with a 1:58.14. Congratulations Sean, great meet and a team record in the 200 fly. Emily Kelly continued to swim to personal success on the third day. The 200 M Free was a great race, winning the last 50 is always the best way to win this event. Emily's 2:02.44 outtouched the second place time of 2:02.53. Jack's personal best of 1:55.20 placed him in 5th.
Day four showed LIAC's distance lane. Six second swims in the 500 free!! Five out of six best times at night. Emily Kelly takes home another gold with a 4:17.48 in the 400 M free.
The meet is over and LIAC finishes in 7th place overall. Great place considering the only relays we competed in were the 800M Free Relays. Jack represented the sprint lane finishing off his meet with a personal best in the 50M free with a 24.13 placing 12th overall. Great meet Jack!!! Megan, Ashley, Julia, Emily and Jonathon each swam a personal best in their distance event today. Emily's PB got her another Gold medal and the Olympic Trial cut in the 800M Free!! Julia's PB got her an 8th place medal - Way to go Julia!!! Sean finished his mile in 16:01.12, a 4th place medal, YEAH Sean!
Congratulations Emily Kelly for winning the overall High Point Award. This award is given to the athlete who has accumulated the most points throughout the course of the meet. Emily won this award swimming one less event than her competitors. Great Job Emily!!!
