LONG ISLAND SWIM SCHOOL STAFF

Director Dave Ferris
Dave was the Director of the Adelphi Univ. Learn to Swim Program for ten years, in addition to running the Long Island Aquatic Club lessons program for eight years. During that time he has directed the teaching of thousands of youngsters. He is in his twenty fifth year as the Head Coach of the nationally ranked Long Island Aquatic Club. The Long Island club has again been awarded the USA Swimming Club of Excellence award for 2003, the only club on Long Island to win this award ever. He is a USA Swimming National Team coach, most recently serving as a coach for the USA Swimming team in Korea at the World University Games.
“Our teachers are better prepared to teach because along with a real love for teaching they understand what proper technique is and the Directors reinforce the best methods for teaching it everyday.”

Director Ginny Nussbaum
Ginny served as the Director of the Adelphi University learn to swim program for 4 years. She has a Masters degree in education. She has coached with the Long Island Aquatic Club for fourteen years and has been the Associate Head Coach for the last five years. Recently USA Swimming asked Ginny to serve as the Chairperson for the National Club Development Committee which makes recommendations and introduces programs to develop swimming in the United States.

“ Whether it’s beginners or national level swimmers the format is the same. The skills are different, the abilities are different, the importance of teaching it right the first time should never be sacrificed.”

Site Supervisor Alexis Skelos

“Learning to Swim is the only after school sports activity that will actually save a persons life. It should be one of the first sporting skills taught.”

Instructor Mike Ferris

Mike Ferris is a former national level swimmer who has spent six years teaching Learn to Swim. Mike brings a great deal of experience knowledge and personal attention to his classes.

“I love it when my students learn a skill for the first time. They get that look of accomplishment that let’s me know they are growing in confidence and ability.”
