At Long Island Swimming children are taught their strokes right the first time. The small group environment makes learning to swim easy and fun. Our learning sequences are geared towards small logical progressions that allow the whole stroke to be developed.
Children in our stroke clinics already have an understanding of the four competitive strokes and are able to demonstrate at least 25 yards of each butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle, as well as complete four laps of continuous swimming. In every level of Stroke Clinic swimmers are introduced to drills in order to make their swimming more efficient. Swimmers are also encouraged to swim more to build the stamina, strength and endurance necessary to participate on a swim team.
Long Island Swimming's Stroke Clinics take place at both our Stewart avenue Pool and the Nassau County Aquatic Center in Eisenhower park. Long Island Swimming's office is located in Garden City, at 750 Stewart Avenue. To find us please pull into the parking lot for Ethan Allen and drive to the back of the building. We are the rear entrance.
Stroke Clinic is offered Monday - Thursday afternoons at 5:00 pm and/or 6:00 pm depending on the class. All swimmers must be evaluated by Long Island Swimming staff to take part in the stroke clinic. The link on the left hand side of this page has more information about our next tryout.

Long Island Swimming's Stroke Clinic programs are taught by our friendly and knowledgable staff. All of our Stroke Clinic instructors were competitive swimmers, and the program is overseen by our full-time Long Island Aquatic Club coaching staff. Our instructors work closely with the LIAC coaches to break down the latest drills and most effective technique for our stroke clinic swimmers.
Swimmers in our stroke clinic programs may be invited to participate in swim meets. Once each session Long Island Swimming hosts a mini meet. These meets are a fantastic opportunity for our Stroke Clinic swimmers to show off what they've learned in a relaxed racing environment. The mini meet is a terrific learning experience for our Stroke Clinic swimmers and a great introduction into the competitive side of swimming.
Swimmers in our stroke clinic programs may also be invited to participate in swim meets with our competitive team, Long Island Aquatic Club. Swimmers are consistently evaluated by the coaching staff and are not asked to compete in these meets unless the instructors beleive they are both physically and mentally ready.
