Duals in the Pool

Meet Four, A Shower of Best Times

Picture
The Slim Gins, coming off their upset victory over Cap'N Keith's crew, were hungry and looking to add to their win total on the season. Not only did they add to their win total, but did so decisively over team Ferris Wheel. The Slim Gins went 1-2-3 in the girls and boys 200 free, with Cavan Gormsen and Griffen Schimmel touching first, both would add a second win in the 500 later. Manouli Mountantonakis added to his mountain of lifetime bests with two second places in the sprint freestyle events. If Jack D'Allesandro swims the 500 free every week in a dual meet by the end of next year he'll go 0 seconds, another lifetime best and second place for Jack. Young guns Matthew Peitler and David Gutin went 1-2 in the 100 fly, as the girls went 1-2-3-4. Montefusco and Libassi continued their reign as King and Queen of Breaststroke Land staying undefeated in the event. Patrick Xi went two best times and added some depth points as the Slim Gins improved to 2-2.

Ferris Wheel was short handed but it didn't stop their swimmers from giving 100% effort. Kailey Simons won the 200 IM and gave Montefusco her best challenge yet in the 100 breast. Joanie Cash and Billy Swartwout both won two events. Recent free agent acquisition Adrian Romej won the 100 freestyle. 13 year old April Chun continued to impress in her events going a big time best time in the 500 free. Jason Kong dropped two seconds in the 200 IM in a close race with the Gins David Gutin. Ferris Wheel hopes to be at full strength for the last meet as they try to avoid going 0-5.

Cap'N Keith fought off Bababooey to get back in the win column after their first loss of the season. Sofia Giordano was on fire with two wins and two best times in the 200 free and 500 free. Senior Captain Nick Shopis won two events, including a close 200 freestyle race. JC Castrillon remained undefeated and set two dual meet records in the 200 IM and 100 free. Tess Howley also remained undefeated and nearly broke 53 in the 100 fly for a new dual, and LIAC, record. Sprinter expert Jenna Nus won a close 50 free, and followed it up with a win in the 100 free, both best times. Calvin Ye joined the best times party winning the 100 fly, and teammates Ari Regev and James Cash also went best times in the event. The relay team of Howley, Castrillon, Shopis, and Raimondi shattered both freestyle relay records.

Bababooey got a good team effort but was just out touched in several events that made the difference. Matt Giardanelli won the 500 and nearly won the 200 before getting touched out by Shopis. Riley Fried asked, "Can we do IM?", and the answer was finally "yes" as she continued to dominate the 200 IM. Michael Biryukov won the 100 back and Michael Ma won the 100 breast as the boys tried to make a late meet push, but ultimately fell short.

The meet of the day was the undefeated Fayvourites versus the sneaky fast, never quitting, Lennon Lemons. It seems the last meet always brings the most excitement, and this was no exception. It was a one point Lennon Lemons lead going into the final relay, but it was the Fayvourites with the one point lead at the end! Again proving, EVERY POINT COUNTS!

The relay of Saliou, Chu, Tsai, Zhao broke the 200 medley record to start the meet. The four of them would combine for 9 wins. Chu won the 500 in a best time and added the 100 breast later. Tsai won a hard fought 200 IM and cruised to a win in the 100 fly. Saliou dolphin kicked her way to victory in both the 100 free and the 100 back. Zhao touched behind her in the 100 after winning the 50 earlier in the meet. Pawlowski added wins in the 50 and 200 freestyle. Katie Yee lost a close 200 IM with a best time and touched first again in the 100 fly. The story of the meet was relays. Without them, The Fayvourites would be 3-1 (maybe even 2-2), but with a team first mentality, the Fayvourites dominated the relays on the way to 4-0.

The Lemon's were throwing down best times and close races all afternoon. MVP candidate Dylan Lee and teammate Pat Yan fought hard to win the 200 IM but just missed. They both went lifetime bests. Abby Han had a great 200 IM win, but a huge mental error in the 50 free. Lauren Patalano finished second twice going a best time in the 100 fly. The Lemons' depth again was their strength as they got wins from LaRice, Beehler, and Fong late in the meet. Fong led a trio of breaststrokers finishing in the top 3 spots. The mysterious Annabelle Corcks won the 200 and 500 free, the latter in best time fashion. Senior Adriana Kamor let her swimming do the talking, and her lungs do the yelling, as she picked up two third places both with best times.

Only one meet left!
