To Provide an Environment where Champions are Inevitable

The Age Group 1 Team consists of those swimmers between ages 11 - 13, who have achieved 600 point value for swims within USA Swimming's evaluation system. These swimmers will be proficient in stroke technique as evaluated by the coaching staff. They will also demonstrate complete workouts with their peers. Age Group 1 swimmers, ages 11 attend practice 5 times a week and 12 years old attend 6 times a week.

Carol Withus
Carol Withus, a collegiate All-American Athlete, former LIAC swimmer, and Coach, is excited to come home as our Head Age Group Coach. Carol returns to LIAC after 34 years, with extensive high-level experience at the College and USA Swimming Club levels. Most recently, Carol worked as an Age Group Coach for five years with the USA Swimming Silver Medal Club, Tide Swimming, in Virginia Beach, VA. During these past few years, her passion for working with the youth of our sport was reignited. While at Tide, Carol was the Director of Communications, Staff, and Long-Term Athlete Development.

Before Tide Swimming, Carol was Head Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Coach at Old Dominion University for 27 years. Carol is one of a handful of women to serve as a Head Coach for Men and Women at the NCAA Division I level.  Her accomplishments include three conference team titles and 7 Coach of the Year titles. She has coached four athletes who competed at the Olympic Games for their country (Iceland, Albania, and St Lucia) along with many Division l NCAA and USA Olympic trial qualifiers. Carol’s compassion and love for the sport have guided and influenced numerous young adults who have chosen to pursue a career as a Swim Coach.

Carol began her college coaching as an assistant coach for Columbia University, followed by the same position at Ohio University. Her accomplishments as an assistant quickly landed her the Head Coach of Division III NYU Women’s Swim Team.  Carol’s success with that D3 program opened the door to her tenure at ODU.

Carol grew up in North White Plains, NY. She received her BS from Adelphi University. Carol has two daughters - Caroline (23) and Catherine Rose (20). The knowledge and experience Carol brings, combined with LIAC’s enthusiastic staff and successful process, excites us as we continue our Mission of being a top competitive USA Swimming Program.
