Remembering LIAC Legend Susan Petersen Lubow

10/15/2015

On October 5th, the LIAC family lost Board of Director member Susan Petersen Lubow.  We offer our sincere condolences to her family and thank them for allowing her to spend some of her time in our service.

Susan is a legend in Long Island Swimming history, having competed as a national caliber age group swimmer in the late 1960's.   It's what she did out of the pool though, that she will be most remembered for, starting with being the first female athletic director of a United States Academy.

Susan was a manager on many LIAC teams at nationals during the 90's.  In her position as a member of the NCAA Swimming Committee, she was instrumental in bringing both the women's and men's NCAA Division I Championships to Long Island.

"Susan was a great friend with an enthusiastic, sincere personality. She was the consummate professional which allowed her to be so successful. LIAC and I will miss her dearly," says LIAC Founder Dave Ferris.

I read of Sue's passing in the Springfield College Triangle. Incredible role model and leader. Coach Dave, I am sorry for your loss - she was truly an inspiration to all who knew her!
