Happy Thursday!

I hope you are having an easy and enjoyable week.

AG1 Summer Fun results are attached to this email. Congratulations to Josie Gans for making her first Age Group Champs cut! 200 m flyers deserved applause for their great efforts. It is one of the most challenging long-course events!

I also attached updated Age Group Champs and ISCA entries. Please review it with your athletes and let me know if you have any questions. I plan to talk to each swimmer individually at the practice.

The school year is over. I know many swimmers have started different camps. As much as I like your kids to have fun during the summer, please communicate with me before you sign your kids up for the swim camps. Every swim program is different and has its own teaching style. Approaching championship season, we will work on the details like starts, turns, etc. I want to ensure our athletes don’t get confused learning new things at the swim camps, which may affect their performance.

As the summer days get hotter, even an easy, short practice can dehydrate athletes in extreme heat or humidity. Athletes sweat a lot during practice, meaning their bodies are shedding water and electrolytes and working harder than usual. Electrolytes, including sodium, are expelled as swimmers sweat, and if their bodies get out of balance, drinking too much plain water rather than replenishing it with an electrolyte-infused sports drink can actually be dangerous. A sports drink is essential to help replenish athletes’ electrolytes and water stores. Please remind your kids to have water and sports drinks at the practice.

The AG1 practice schedule for next week is posted on the website https://www.longislandswimming.com/practices.html.  We’ll have practice from 7:00 to 9:00 am at NCAC on Tuesday, 7/4.

I am at the practice on Friday morning but will be out of town this weekend. In case of an emergency, please contact Gabby at gborutecene@longislandswimming.com and CC me on your email.

I hope everyone has a lovely rest of the week.

Swimmingly,
Gabi Sofia
