Happy Monday!

I hope everyone had a pleasant and relaxing weekend.

It is hard to believe our swim season is approaching the end, and we are only eleven days away from the Age Group Championships. Your athletes have done nice work crashing challenging sets. The work is done. It’s time for preparation. Next few weeks, we will spend more time working on the details to sharpen up things like starts, turns, finishes, etc. At this point, attendance becomes very important.

Repetitio est mater studiorum!

AG1 practice schedule slightly changes on Friday, 7/14, and is posted on our website: https://www.longislandswimming.com/practices.html.

I will run dryland sessions from 3:45 to 4:15 pm on Monday, 7/10, and Thursday, 7/13.

The updated AG1 entry file for Age Group Champs is attached to this email. Please review it again and let me know if you have any questions by noon on Tuesday, 7/11. I won’t be able to make any changes once the entries are submitted.

Lastly, I want to share three tips for making the most of your athletes’ taper and racing FAST at their BIG meet. Please share it with your kids!

  1. Know Your Goals: Go into each race at your big meet, knowing what you want to achieve. Do you have a specific goal time? Want to make finals? GOOD! Please remember to write it down along with how you'll be able to achieve that goal. Knowing you have a plan will help you go into each race more confidently!

  1. Tried and True, Nothing New: Many swimmers tend to try to switch things up once they get to the big meet. They'll eat different or more healthy foods the week leading up to a meet or want to try out some fancy new kind of goggles on race day. DON'T! Stay consistent with your diet, gear, and pre-race routines! This is what your body knows and what you're used to, so this will be how you perform best.

  1. Have Fun: There can be a lot of pressure associated with the "end-of-season meets." You've worked hard all season and want to perform well! Remember: it's just another swim meet! Enjoy racing and cheering alongside your friends and teammates. Happy swimmers swim fast. So enjoy the experience and have fun!

I hope you have a lovely week.

Best regards,
Gabi Sofia
